Glass coming away from frame

Hello

Is anyone else suffering issues with the new iPhone 6 screens. I have had a couple now where the glue appears to be failing and the glass and LCD are coming away from the frame.

Both times it appears to be near the mute button, which causing the glass to bounch slightly and light leak between the frame and rear of the LCD.

Any tips on repairing them?

I have had the same problem. I got the iPhone 6 5 months ago and I've been to the Apple Store 5 times with a separating screen. I contacted my carrier and said that it was crazy that I have had this problem 5 times. Apple said this problem isn't common but I've heard of so many stories of this happening. Best bet get a iPhone 6s. iPhone 6 sucks!

door

Technically apple kinda has to replace it no matter if your warranty is expired or not because it's a safety hazzard, if dropped with a swollen battery it will cause the phone to burst into flames and my explode a little.(not to scare anyone ^~^)

door

I have the same issue right now I honestly don't know what to do I dropped my iPhone 6 and screen just started separating from the back what do I do

door

I have a brand new iPhone 7 plus that this happened to today. I've had the phone 2 days! The screen has popped up so much you can see the circuit board inside! Unbelievable!

door

I also have a 5c and my screen Is popping up. It has something to do with the battery

There're 3 main reasons that cause the iPhone 6 Frame and LCD Separation:

1. The LCD assembly and frame was assembled by cheap glue, which is not sticky enough to meet the higher requirements as the iPhone 6’s frame is thinner and the screen is bigger than previous models.

2. The iphone 6 frame is thinner than previous models, the machinery as well as the process that is used for previous iPhone models are not applicable for iPhone 6 any longer.

3. Many third-party manufacturers are unable to do the assembly work in a dust-free room. Dust easily sticks to the glass unless these conditions are met, which will affect the quality of the glue. Besides, there’s a varnish on the bottom of the iPhone 6 glass, if it is not sticky enough and coming off, the frame is guaranteed to come off as well.

My iPhone 6 Plus keeps restarting is it because my screen has a gap or is it something else

Glue?? Wth are talking about.. there is no glue for iPhone 5 -7. I don't know before the 5 but 5-7 does not use glue. From my experience, the phone is dropped and the bezel is bent. Once this happens the digitizer and LCD assembly does no seat correctly and any little contortion from handling will cause the screen to come out of the bezel or crack. Also the battery is swollen from a piece of glass or debris entering through the crack and lodging on the batttery , eventually breaking containment into the battery causing the battery to swell and could explode or flash..

The phone does use glue between the LCD and the frame. It is called OCA, or optically clear adhesive, and fuses the LCD with the frame

door

the reason the screen pops off is due to the battery buldging. You must replace the battery either by going to apple under warranty or a cell phone repair shop to replace battery. Problem solved

door

The other reason is so many people keep their phones in their back pockets and then sit on them, thus bending the case and causing the pressure which forces the screen to separate from the body.

John, from what I experienced with 5/5S/5C screens, it's a wide spread issue that affects a lot of screens. They're either rejects or just standard production at some cheap factory.

iPhone 6 original screen replacement $109 at Apple. None of us have any business replacing iPhone 6 screens--especially if the aftermarket screens are held together with chewing gum. :(

Over here there are no Apple Store. Few Apple Certified Service Centers are allowed to fix a few issues on iOS devices, but not screens. So even when they started at $200+ a piece for the cheap knock-offs you could still find a market.

Hi guys. After struggling with the same problem, I am happy to report the solution. You'll need to get Locktight Epoxy Plastics, it comes in a purple label and looks like a two part syringe. Be sure to remove the screen from the phone and disassemble the metal led backing plate. Clean the old glue off as best possible and wipe the surfaces to be glued with a Q-tip soaked in rubbing alcohol to ensure clean surfaces. Apply the glue to the frame and position on glass(you don't need a lot of glue here, don't want it spewing everywhere). Apply pressure to the frame and be careful it doesn't shift and dries crooked, this can easily happen as the frame is very thin. Be particularly sure to apply pressure to the top corners of the screen +frame (corners closest to the front facing camera). I used 3 empty bottle of 1800 tequila, one on each of the corners described. I used one bottle on top of my leather wallet which distributed pressure among the lower tabs of the frame. You may be able to use clothespins or a heavy txt book. Once you are sure the frame is sitting straight, Let it sit for 15-20 minutes with the weight. Wipe off residual glue with rubbing alcohol and/or small flat head screwdriver. Assemble everything and enjoy. Cheers ! No more frame separation!!!!!!! FYI this Locktight epoxy most closely remebles oem characteristics of thin and elasticity.

Take it to an Apple Store. I took mine (out of warranty), prepared to spend around $110 for the repair and ended up paying nothing because they discovered the problem resulted from a swollen battery, which is a safety issue, and therefore, no charge.

Hi, I have the same problem. Does anyone know if I can take my iphone 6 to a Apple store in the US if the device was bought in Spain?

door

Shouldn't be a problem. Apple is not picky when it comes to doing this service.

This happened to me twice, exact same spot and all. Both times it was not a defect with the screen, but actually the battery or hardware inside. Something caused the battery to swell, almost doubling in width.

I had a verizon charger, which was suspected to be defective and somehow causing this to happen, that i used exclusively for both batteries. but i still have yet to figure out if that is what caused the swelling or if it was something els within the phone. I also needed a new charging port sometime after the first swollen battery, which tells me that there is a good chance it was the charger.

if anyone els has had the swollen battery as the cause of their screen popping out and had a verizon (black block/ not the iphone charger) charger please respond as i am curious as to what the cause is.

I think you might be right. Sometimes I use my iPad charger interchangeably. But I also had a screen replacement from a non-Apple store. So I am not sure what caused it. I haven't taken it into apple yet. Appointment is in 2 days.

door

cheap chargers wont have a limiter on them and will over charge the batteries causing the battery itself to swell and destroy the phone , generally high end chargers will have tools in place that autimatically stop the phone from over charging , and higher end phones like iphones have limiters as well that stop taking the charge in , but when you have a cheap charger it overcharges the phone istself regardless of wether the phone is trying to stop the charge or not

I have repaired iPhones for years, and found that only the 6 and 6plus suffer this problem, I have 3 phones recently that need re glueing, but the owners have admitted to dropping there phones on several occasions causing them to separate :-/ I will try the locktite glue idea and let you know if it works .

You shouldn't be having these issues now, frame issues have dissappeared, unless you're still using very cheap screens.

Most screens that use hot melt glue on the frame will fall out eventually as it isn't strong enough to last a long time.

Original screens use cold press glue, which is extremely strong, and lasts an extremely long time.

You can even get copy screens today with cold press frames, so there's no excuse, but always go for original if possible, so you shouldn't be getting issues like this today, unless you're buying off eBay or some rubbish like that.

Did it work?

my screen is lifting and the phone doesnt charge or turn on it does nothing

door

I have iPhone 7 plus and it started separating 23 months after purchase. I have not dropped it. The only comment that makes sense is the battery overcharging due to not being an Apple product. Thanks everyone.

:Any Tips on Repairing" was the question, but every other person gave their opinion on aftermarket parts, etc... Stick to the question..if you don't have a tip..dont add unnecessary comments. Oh, and I am sure everyone doesn't use genuine replacement parts for everything in your home or your cars.

Here's a tip.

Stop buying cheap sh*t.

Or, if you want tips on repairing frames, go buy a £300 machine that allows you to put hot melt glued frames on a new LCD.

There's no excuse for screens falling out these days, you can even get copy screens with cold press frames.

Sorry I don't mean Original Apple screens I mean aftermarket OEM claimed screens. Just trying to find out if it is a wide spread issue with aftermarket ones or just a dodgy batch my supplier has?

door

Belive it or not had this on an iPhone 6 I fixed today just at the mute button like yours..

This screen was 100% original

Tryed reseeding a few time but same issue

door

I have experienced this with 2 screens now, both in the same place (near mute button). I am a bit annoyed with my supplier as they claim to be original screens. I suspect they may be original LCDS but aftermarket glass and frame.

Having taken an original screen apart vs the Aftermarket one and it is clear that they have different adhesives. The original had a solid paste like glue whereas the aftermarket seemed to have a 3m double sided tape type adhesive.

My supplier is clearly having a lot of issues with these as I could sense his stress when I called him. He wanted me to try and super glue the frame back in, but I wasn't too keen on doing this.

Hopefully this is an issue that will be sorted as it has potential for causing repairs shops many headaches in the future

John, I am seeing that with aftermarket screens the bezel adhesive starts giving out around 3 weeks after the repair. Part of this seems to be due to the heat here in AZ (110+F). Hopefully this will be fixed soon!

I have heard many shop owners complained about this problem. It should be the problem of the screen replacement. Our technicians say that it is mostly because the materials used to produce the screen. We have received any similar feedback from our customers. There are 2 possible reasons for the problem. I think my battery was swollen and causing the separation but I didn't know for sure and while waiting for replacement I heard a pop and screen cracked, it already was lifting away from sides too and I could tell something was causing it from inside the phone and I told this to the T-Mobile Rep when I went to show them because I only had the phone 3-5 days and it was progressively getting worse. But while waiting for replacement, that sams night it finally popped and cracked and now they won't cover it, saying my phone is out of warranty and charged me the balance while they have the broken phone and I now learn I can get it fixed elsewhere.

Swollen/bulging battery is a common cause for screen separation.

It goes exactly as described by you.

Battery should be replaced ASAP since it is a fire and health hazard at this time.

Take it to an Apple Store. If it is a buldging battery, Apple will replace the phone free of charge. Happened to my iPhone and wasnt even a major buldge

Hot melt glue on the frames of all iphone 6 and 6s models heat up and cause the screen to fall out of the frame, it is not usually caused by battery swelling. You need to use cold pressed frames for screens and will not have a problem. This is mainly a problem with cheap aftermarket screens

Just fixed mine. It was a swelling battery. Yes the glue could have prolonged the screen from completely coming undone but the battery would have eventually blew up.

Yes you will need to disassemble the plastic frame from the glass. Scrape off the hot melt glue and put some decent glue on. May be easier to buy some spare frames and replace the whole frame. Easiest way. Otherwise will keep happening

First check to make sure the underlying cause is not a swollen battery or some other mechanical fault, and fix said fault if found. Reattaching the screen requires a strong adhesive that will not harden and become brittle. I have had success with B-7000 (ordered from amazon). Be aware it is a very vaporous compound, so be sure to use safely -- well ventilated area and avoid contact with the various parts of your body.
