Rakeria Washington, sounds like it is the actual headphone jack. It should turn off the circuit to your speaker when it detects that the headphones are plugged in. If you give us the model of your phone, we might be able to help you with the replacement as well. Hope this helps, good luck.

@passionate if you are using a bluetooth headset check your crossover cable. From left to right or vice versa.

This happened on my Moto X and it was because lint was inside the headphone jack preventing the headphones from making a solid connection. Power down the phone and use a wooden or plastic toothpick and make sure there is nothing jammed inside the headphone jack.

I have a brand new Samsung galaxy j5 2017. It came with headphones in the box. Nothing is jammed in the jack. All bluetooth etc is switched off. I've rebooted the phone several times and started it with headphones in and headphones out. The phone will not play music through headphones. Just blasts it from the phone speakers....help....sooooo frustrated!

I have a similar problem only when I plug my head phones in on my new lg stylo 3 from boost mobile it keeps flashing between listening and my music or game or whatever else I was trying to use them for. Very annoyi ng

door

Restarting does not solve the problem. I need to know how to set the settings to make the music come out of the headphones.

door

Don't believe it has to do with settings. If you have a newer phone (splash proof) your headphones must be gold tipped to improve conductivity. My son is an auto mechanic and realized my phone had a splash proof coating so I switched to gold tips and it works beautifully

Hello. It might not be the actual headphones. More than likely there is a setting on your phone that can direct the sound to your headphones. It happens a lot to me, but I change the settings to "headphones" from "internal speaker" and it works every time. I hope this helps.

I have a solution that worked for me: what I did was plugged the headphones in but not all the way put them in untill the last that makes the click and twist them a little and you should hear it only on one side and then you push them the rest of the way

I had this problem. I got a cotton but cleaned it out blew down the hole and also my phone was due a system update, this was a galaxy s6 edge. Then I left it over night and it worked the next morning. If your phone needs an update to that but defiantly attempt cleaning it it can work

If your headphones or earphones are playing out loud after you've plugged them in there might me a broken piece inside where the earphones go that's why mines kept playing out loud l. You might need a new phone or get it fix the part that was broken my dad kept outing it back into place with a needle but it would work then pause and play out loud. You might need a new phone. Hope this works

I think a piece of metal has broken off the end of my other earbuds in the headphones jack. I can't afford a new phone. My phone has to last me a long time. I only had my phone for about 2-3 months. I can't buy a new one. Is there anyway I can just go get it fixed? Maybe at the mall or Walmart?

I have an older version of Sony Xperia and the music plays outloud with my headphones plugged in but once I switched headphones there wasn't a problem but I can't find the setting that I accidentally switched that made my phone unresponsive to my headphones. Normally a "headphones plugged in" message pops up but now it doesn't.

Whatever it is, it has nothing to do with hardware. It’s a settings issue and no one seems to know how to communicate the way to fix it.

Have you tried gold tipped headphones? If your phone has a splash proof coating the silver tipped headphones don't work. Just borrow someone's headphones and try it. It won't cost you anything. Most phones don't even have software settings for headphones.

If you just recently purchased your phone it may have a splash proof plastic coating which requires gold tipped headphones which has improved conductivity. It solved my problem!

the way this works…..the headphone jack has a switch in it. When you plug the HF in, it opens the switch as long as it goes all the way in.

That either disconnects the speakers directly, or signals the circuit to turn off the speakers.

Therefore, there is no issue with the HF if they work. If the speakers continue to work then either the jack is defective if it is a direct switch, or the cutoff circuit is defective or a setting is wrong.

If there is anything in the plug, like hair or fuzz, that would cause the HF not to work. It would likely turn off the speakers since the switch would be activated if the plug went all the way in.
