Hi Sylena (@sylenal),

Without a charging port, obviously the phone's battery will run out of charge and the phone will die, which I assume has already happened. Unfortunately your phone doesn't come with wireless charging, so the port is the only way to get the battery charged. In theory you could probably buy a replacement battery and pop that in; it would most likely have enough charge to power the phone long enough to get your pictures off it, assuming you plan to do that wirelessly rather than by connecting to a computer and downloading them.

The thing is, replacing the battery is only marginally easier than replacing the charging port, and will only be a one time fix so the phone will still be useless after that battery dies.

So besides not being able to charge the phone, you won't be able to connect to a computer without a new charging port. To be honest, after viewing the video, it's actually one of the simpler charging port repairs there are on cell phones. For this repair you really only need a minimum of tools and the part itself is pretty cheap.

All in all, my suggestion would be to go ahead and replace the port. You'll get the full use of your phone back and won't have any issues getting your pictures and/or data from it, and in addition you will be able to sell/donate/trade a working phone and keep it out of the landfill a while longer.
