Clean button single beep

When I press Clean, all I get is a single beep in response. New battery and a full charge. Took it apart and cleaned internally, but still just the single beep. Tried a reset/reboot. iRobot wants $125 to fix, but I figure that I can do it myself. Anyone have an answer?
