You need to peel up the plate with the modes on these. Once you do that then you usually remove a screw in the center to remove the dial. The main thing you MUST DO is put it in the full auto mode as this makes installation easier. This has worked for me on the ELAN 7, I very much doubt that Canon changed much between then besides the plate being a full cover part now.
