Keyboard and mouse not working

before I unplugged my keyboard and mouse from the pc its still working, then i unplugged both of them and put it in my laptop when i try to return it to computer, it only have lights but no response from the keyboard and mouse. i tried a different mouse and it still wont recognize it. what can i do?
