I recently replaced the 6GB hard drive on my iBook g3 Clamshell with a new 30GB hard drive. The new hard drive is blank, so when I start up the iBook I get a gray screen with a folder that has a question mark on it. I have tried inserting an install disk for Mac OS X 10.4 and one (burnt CD) for Ubuntu Linux. I used an external CD/DVD drive because my iBook only has a CD drive built in. I have tried using both the built in drive and the external drive, and have held the 'C' key when starting the computer up, but I still get the gray screen and a question mark folder... Am I doing something wrong?
P.S. My iBook is the 1999 model. It has a CD ROM Drive built in, one USB 2.0, Internet (phone and ethernet ports,) one new 512 MB RAM (new) that replaced a 256 MB RAM, and Airport. It does ''not'' have a firewire port. (If that info helps)
