Do you have an external display available? If so, use the adapter that came with the machine to connect. Does the brown border show up on the external monitor?

If it does not show up, I would think the display is to blame.

If it does show up on the external display, that would indicate a graphics processor issue (which is unfortunately soldered onto the logic board).
