Why can't I switch from rear to front camera?

I switch my Camera, Mic and headphone jack on Ipad 2 2nd gen, and when I try to switch from rear to front camera it freezes as if I took a picture with the rear camera, but I   can't It switch from rear to front camera? what could be the problem?, It didn't switch before either?. Help
