To replace the cable you'll need to take the display off and then dissemble it. This is a very big job! And you do need to be more careful. Instead of going that deep you could replace the full lid assembly while more expensive it will be a lot easier! You'll need to refer to this guide to give you an idea how to disassemble the display the rest of the way: [guide|1423|MacBook Pro 13" Unibody Mid 2009 LCD Replacement] Jump to Step 15, so you can get the cable connection on the displays logic board. The next issue is finding the cable which will be difficult.
