If the original drive was IDE then the replacement should be IDE. You can try a work around but I doubt it will ever be satisfactory. You would need to make changes if possible in the bios settings to allow for a SATA drive and I'm not sure the software you are using has the proper drivers. FWIW I don't think the size of the drive is a problem--just that its not an IDE drive. If the original drive was a SATA forget all of the above and use the link I gave you to format and install.
