ThinkPad fails to charge
ThinkPad will not charge the battery.
Battery is malfunctioning
Remove battery from the laptop and hold down the power button for 3-4 seconds. Place the battery back in and plug in the charger. If it does not begin charging, it is a faulty battery. Purchase a new battery and replace the existing one.
Faulty AC Adapter
Plug the adapter into the computer. If the charge light does not come on, but is plugged into a working outlet, the adapter is faulty. Purchasing a new adapter will allow the power to charge the battery.
Unresponsive screen
Device is completely unresponsive
System Error
Press and hold on the power button for a minimum of 30 seconds for a force reboot to take place. If unsuccessful, try again with device being charged.
Faulty operating system
Faulty files in your operating system may cause your screen to become unresponsive. You will need to reset or uninstall your operating system to create a solution to this problem.
Screen display
There may be an issue with the screen display hardware. The device may need to have a new screen display physically installed. See our repair guide for instructions.
Computer won't boot
If the device is powered on or is involved in memory intensive tasks, the operating system becomes unresponsive and takes you to either an error screen or a black screen.
RAM is full/faulty
If the system failure occurs while the computer is attempting to process current tasks, this may be due to an issue with the RAM. The connection between the RAM and computer may be loose or faulty. Turn the device off, disconnect and reconnect the RAM, and turn the computer on. It may also be due to the computer needing more RAM or the current RAM being faulty. Install new RAM on the device.
Hard Drive Error
When the device is powered on, the screen remains black or displays an error message. This may be due to an issue with the hard drive. Operating system repair disks may be run in an attempt to automatically repair the system. If these prove unsuccessful, power the device off, remove the back plate and the battery, disconnect the hard drive, wait 30 seconds, reconnect the hard drive, and replace all proper parts before powering the device back on. If neither of these recommendations solve the issue, the device may need a new hard drive.
Distorted audio output
No sound is coming out of the speakers or out of connected headphones.
Setting Changes
The audio setting could have been automatically changed or certain settings could have been disabled. To check sound settings right-click on the sound icon on the bottom of your screen and select Playback Devices. Then select mixer and make sure none of the settings are disabled or changed from the default settings.
Faulty Audio Driver
If the audio is not coming out of the speakers or connected headphones, the audio driver might be malfunctioning. Go to the settings and search device manager. Once on the device manager, expand the category sound, video, and game controllers. Then right-click on the sub category that represents your audio driver. Click on uninstall and confirm this choice. After this, restart your PC. Windows should reinstall the audio driver after the computer restarts.
Outdated Audio Driver
The reason your audio may not be working could be due to an outdated audio driver. To update the audio driver go to your settings and search device manager. In the device manager, expand the sound, video, and game controllers category. Then right-click the sub category that is your audio driver and select update driver software. After you have followed these steps restart your PC for the changes to take effect.
User-observed wireless network
Device is unable to connect to any wireless network.
Faulty Network Adapter
Ensure that the network adapter is actively engaged with the operating system. Also, check that the network card is listed in corresponding format with your device. If these solutions are unsuccessful, a new network adapter may be required.
Incorrect SSID
The connection will fail if the network name is not entered correctly. Make sure that the alphanumeric key you are using matches exactly what is entered into the wireless router as what is on the computer profile. The user may also have to remove the security settings of the router to check for connectivity.
Radio is not Enabled
If the radio is disabled the transmitter needs to be turned back on for the device to be able to connect to any wireless network. If you are having problems with wireless network connections make sure that the radio transmitter switch on your device is in the On position.
