Mijn probleem

My iphone 3GS was bulging. And I read that meant the battery had probably expanded, and might even explode (after 2 years of purchasing my phone from apple). It was out of warranty and I heard that apple probably wouldn't even attempt a fix under its current expanded, screen popping out condition. And if they did it would cost me at least $80. No thanks.

Mijn oplossing

The repair went very smoothly. I followed the instructional video and photo by photo steps. It was a little difficult getting the ribbons disconnected at first, but I finally got everything off. I thought my phone was done for because the board was warped from the battery pressure, but after replacing the battery and putting it back together it actually turned on. :) YAY!

Mijn advies

The screws on the board pretty much flew out. I thought my whole phone was going to crack and fall into pieces. But I held the board down and kept pressure on it so I could get all the screws out, keeping the force consistent over the entire phone. I think that helped the board not to crack.

After charging the battery and turning on my phone the screen doesn't lay quite as flat as it did originally (probably because the phone was warped from the expanded battery), so the power button and volume keys don't always work. But if you squeeze the corner of the phone closest to them a bit then they work just fine. All and all, I am very pleased. I have my phone back. And only for $20. :)

And the battery life is surprisingly good. It's lasting better than it has for years.
