iPhone 4 (CDMA/Verizon) Screen Replacement

1 - 3 uren

Difficult

Mijn probleem

My daughter dropped the phone outside on our concrete steps. Not a pretty site.

Mijn oplossing

Replacing the display was fun and very cool. The online version of the step-by-step guide had incredibly sharp, high res close ups for each step and really made it easy to compare against my phone's innards. It probably took me about 4 hours combined to complete but I have significantly shaky hands so that probably added an hour to the process. Upon completion, I was amazed to see the phone actually power on, but soon realized all was not well when it started rebooting shortly after coming up and would only boot if plugged into AC charger. I did some checking on the ifixit forums and saw numerous posts regarding the battery and/or battery cable connection. Sure enough, the standoff that the battery terminal screws into was itself, not fully screwed down, preventing a good connection. Took care of it and now it's running like a champ.

Mijn advies

The one thing that greatly reduced guesswork (particularly on reassembly) was using a screw template. These little buggers are so small and are of minutely varying lengths. Very hard to distinguish simply by sight. The template keeps the screws separated by step and lets you keep track of what screw went where.
