Background
The Sony WH-CH520’s are a pair of on-ear headphones that wirelessly connect to your phone and other devices. It was released in April of 2023 and is sold worldwide but mostly sold in the United States and Japan. The ideal demographic is people between 18-40 who use tech frequently and the Sony WH-CH520’s are typically sold at a price around $50-$60.
The Sony WH-CH520’s have so far never been recalled, however, there are multiple reports of them causing issues when wet. The motherboard shorts and burns out when exposed to even just a little rain or sweat. There have been a few complaints of the headband and ear cushions being uncomfortable or hot if worn for too long especially for smaller heads and ears. The Sony WH-CH520’s are the most recent addition to Sony’s WH collection and the only on-ear headphones in said collection. They are significantly cheaper than the other options for this device family and are not noise canceling like the majority of the other headphones.
This device has a 10 meter Bluetooth range and while quieter than other models due to the lack of noise canceling, they save more battery for a longer life. It can last up to 50 hours on a full charge and every 3 minutes of charging gives 90 minutes of use.
Identification
The Sony CH-520 is a pair of lightweight, wireless headphones. They come in a variety of colors including (and limited to) black, blue, tan, and white. Some defining features include small, circular earpieces, three buttons along the bottom of the right-hand earpiece (two for volume, one for power and Bluetooth), a USB-C port on the bottom of the right-hand earpiece for charging, and “Sony” printed on each side of the headband. Though some other wireless headphone models from Sony appear similar, the CH-520 can be distinguished from these other models due to other models being larger and the earpieces being more “ear-shaped” (oval/rectangular) opposed to circular.
