no slave drive found

I get the message,"no prim or sec slave drive found, what is a slave drive and how dom i find it ?

What program is best for completely formatting the hard drive( no xp disks)?

Windows XP Professional

Pentium 4 processor

It also does not recognize my CD drive too?

Check your BIOS first. You did not tell us which HP you got, otherwise I could be more specific. Make sure the devices are turned on in your BIOS.

I checked it already so why will my computer say it cant fine my slave drives? I never touched them.

Do your drives show up in the BIOS at all? It is possible that you have either a hear drive issue, or a controller issue. Can you boot from the optical drive?

I try to boot from the cd drive i hear it run but the computer does not seem to recognize it. i can use a flash drive it recognizes that ok. I am still trying to make a bootable cd but so far no avail( I have to copy it to my flash drive to try it though).

The bios shows a cd/dvd drive but nothing works in it.
