Keyboard typing extra adjacent letters

I have a Dell Latitude with an i7-10610U. The built-in keyboard suddenly started typing extra adjacent letters. For example, when I press Q, it types QA.

The issue affects multiple keys, while the number keys seem to work normally.

I tested with an external USB keyboard, and it works perfectly with no extra letters or typing issues.

Since the issue is with the built-in keyboard, I want to try fixing it myself before replacing the entire keyboard, since a replacement is quite expensive.

What could be causing this type of hardware failure, and what can I try to repair or clean first? Is there a way to fix the affected keyboard circuits/membrane or ribbon connection without replacing the whole keyboard? Thank you

Hello,

You could just try to clean the keycaps, as dirt, dust, and debris could have an effect when typing keys. Otherwise, it isn't that worth it to repair singular keys, in which you should probably just replace the whole keyboard.

Good luck,

T
