MacBook Pro not Powering (A1706)

Hi, I have a Macbook pro 2017 (touch bar model) it's been on the fritz for awhile with certain USB ports stopping working and the touch bar completely disappearing now and again, the battery has long been dead and it basically only runs wired into the mains.

Last week it started turning off completely and then would not power on at all regardless what charger was used- to note it wouldn't power on at all, I can tell as the trackpad wont click on. On occasion it would turn on then would shut down on login before it managed to load, on a couple of occasions it has managed to login and works normally until it powers off and wont turn on again. I havent managed to boot into safe mode as i haven't managed to turn it on recently as that would be my first go to.

I've passed it to a third party tech to check what's wrong with it, he says USB boards were working (therefore powering the mac) and thinks it's a software issue. Now to me, i've had macs die on me for software reasons in the past and it's never stopped them from powering up (usually resulting in the ? folder) so to me this is a hardware issue clearly- which is important as I really need the data on the harddrive, I don't think it's a software issue.

I know the SSDs on these models are soldered on and so not changeable per se is there any way at all I could buy the same model of macbook pro and swap this harddrive or board into it (professionally) so I can keep the data on the harddrive? Thanks

Which model do you have the 14" or 16"? So we can diagnose things a bit better.

As an update, ive got the Mac back from the tech, it's booting and working as normal again, the tech has done "nothing" aside from inspect the insides. I've ran first aid, booted into safe mode done every software check I can think and it's turning up absolutely nothing.

@jjjr54876 - Setup ASAP a backup drive so you don't find your pants down again. You are very lucky!

Yes I have done, resetting the SMC seems to have solved it for now.

Sadly you can't transfer the Flash Chips (NAND) as your chips are bonded to your system (Serialized).

Your issue is likely a known chip failure which might allow you access to your systems data again.

Thank you, by "known chip failure" what is it you mean exactly? And would this prevent the mac from powering on?

@danj A bit confused here Dan, a known chip failure which might allow you access to your systems data again.... might or might not? (Edited to the correct model A1706 2017 touch bar 13")

It is the A1706 - 2017 touch bar model - 13", i7 3.5ghz

You have a logic board issue. The 14" often have a blown Capacitor on the PPBUS_G3H.

You need a USB-C meter to tell us the actual PPBUS_G3H and 3V3_G3V voltages with the battery disconnected on the charger. If any missing, check diode mode on that rail.

@livfe - Not necessarily! The 16" models has a know chip issue.
