Restore a sub woofer?

I have an old amplified 8" sub up and working, it's about 25 yrs. old. I'm a lil strapped for $ right now and the factory radio in my Infinity has no umpf let alone thump. I'm wondering if there's anything I can do to restore, support ,protect it before it starts to disintegrate? Thank you in advance.

Vinyl protection spray/wipes such as Vinylex, Mother's, and 303 are good at keeping speaker foam and rubber in good shape and can help slow down deterioration. Don't use ArmourAll or other oily-looking sprays. The surround is usually the first to go in old speakers. If the surround has already started to deteriorate, disintegrate, or detach from the cone there's not much you can do other than a rebuild. If the surround is rubber, you can sometimes use butyl calking to make minor repairs. I've got speakers that are over 40 years old and still kickin'. The key is regular maintenance to the surrounds (and sometimes the woven spiders). Amps can also last a long time but some components like output transistors and power supply capacitors just fail over time and need to be replaced. There are specialty shops that can repair just about any amplifier or speaker ageing issue - but they're not free. :)
