Does USB tethering effect battery lifespan

I have to use my iPhone 4s for USB tethering and am wondering if it will effect the lifespan of the battery I will be using it for a lot of Data and it will be for very long periods of time so does it it still use the battery while charging through USB using and replenning the battery simultaneously so after long periods of time will have done several charge cycles

I have received 102gb and sent about 2 or 3gb since I got the phone on release hopefully that gives an idea of how much I will be using it.

Hope this made sense I am very tired (:

Thanks in advance

Gekozen oplossing

http://www.electronics-lab.com/articles/... Has a really good section on how Li-ion batteries work and maintain charge etc over the life of a battery. I think this may better and more accurately answer your question. I'd suggest that if you are using the iphone for long periods of time and the battery is warming that this would be the problem more than other factors.

While plugged in it will also be charging. So your battery will not die. But it may possibly hurt the life of the battery by using it plugged in so much.

Brent Huff, I believe that the statement for battery damage while plugged in, refers to Nickel-based batteries. There is no difference for the Lithium-ion based batteries. Especially since they do use a charging circuit, and the battery will continue to be used while the device is in operation.....

Using your iPhone as a cellar modem makes a lot of sense when you'er a road warrior. As long as your USB port on your laptop offers enough power you should be fine. Make sure your laptop offers enough (8-10Watts) if your trying to sustain a connection over a hour.

Given the amount of data you're pushing though you may want to think about getting a WiMax hotspot as it might be cheaper and just as fast. With many hotspots you can remove the battery and use the USB or AC to power unit. Check out ClearWire (http://www.clearwire.com/). Getting a 3G/4G combo unit gives you the best connectivity options.

In short, yes.

If you already have a dongle but require a wireless connection, I'd highly recommend the 3G Dongle MiFi from Go Baby Mobile. Simple to set up and really easy to use.
