Green light turns on but does not start up

I have an original Nintendo DS that I haven't used for a couple years. Today I tried turning it on and the green light turns on but the screens stay off and there's no audio, so I think it doesn't start up at all. I can charge it fine and I've tried using another battery but it did not solve the problem. What sort of problem could this be?

Hi Thomas!

This is most of the time caused by a broken/bad Wi-Fi chip.

Unfortunately for a Nintendo DS Original, you need to de-solder it from the motherboard.

Do you have any soldering experience? If not, you could replace the whole motherboard or ask a local repair shop to de-solder it and solder a new one in.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Do you think being in storage for a long time can cause the WiFi chip to stop working?

It is possible! Where did you kept it? Inside or outside like in a shed?

@dan0 I just keep it in a drawer in my room.

Alright, that should be fine. Electronics can just break out of nowhere. I think it’s for the best to test with a new Wi-Fi chip!
