New battery draining quickly

I installed my new battery from IFIXIT in hopes that it would hold a much longer charged that the original from 2017, yet it dies in about 4 hours just using it for research and writing papers. Is there a chance that the battery is bad?

If the screen is on at all times and your doing things then about 4 hours is what you'll get from it......

Honestly, I don't think 4 hours is unusual for a MacBook of that time frame depending on how it's being used. Battery life is something that is impacted by so many factors it's difficult to estimate what's "normal." What was your battery life like before you replaced it? If it's significantly better, I would still call that a win.

Also be mindful that workload in 2017 and a workload in 2025 are not the same. Programs as well as the operating system are likely more taking on the hardware.

If you're concerned, you can use Coconut battery to check some of the specifics of battery health.
