GE control panel lights are all on

At first the cubed ice button was the problem. Would move and then not work. Used a small knife to move it back. Then last night my wife saw our granddaughter mash all the buttons a lot. Now all the lights are on and turning the circuit breaker off for 5 minutes does not reset it. Any help on this is appreciated.

Update (12/19/24)

I may not have added enough information and I just saw where I could have posted a picture. The compressor is working. All he lights are frozen all the time on the front and will not work to dispense ice. Hope this picture helps.

Hi @jeepn1999

Thanks.

Try the following and check if it works.

This is assuming that the compressor motor is not running, is this correct?

If it is not running, open the refrigerator compartment door and locate the door switch. This switch is used amongst other things to turn the compartment light on/off when the door is opened/closed.

With the refrigerator door open, manually operate and release the switch 3 times within 5 seconds and then close the door. Check if the compressor starts. It may take anywhere from 5 seconds to 5 minutes for this to occur so be patient.

If still not operating, then with the freezer compartment door open (refrigerator door closed) locate the door switch and do the same procedure as avbove with it.

If still no good, with both doors closed, trip the circuit breaker once more and leave it off for 10 minutes, then turn the breaker on again and allow 5 minutes for the compressor to start and for the display to be normal again.

Hi @jeepn1999

Did you try pressing the Lock Controls button for 3 seconds to see if it cleared the lights?

If still no good, then it may be a problem with the user interface control board.

Mashing all the buttons at the one time may have done some damage.

The only way would be to remove the board and initially visually check for any obvious damage on the board e.g burnt out or heat stressed components.

if nothing obvious then the board may have to be replaced.

Search online for WR55X11144 to find suppliers that suit you best. This is the GE part number for the user interface board that is used in your model.

Unfortunately I cannot find a video online for how to remove it. There are other videos but they are for different GE models and boards and may not be appropriate to your model, so I didn't link them

Thanks for the reply. I took it off and looked it over as much as I could. The replacement part runs from $157 to $174 for just the board and we will need the whole front assembly since the buttons are messed up too. We have decided to just buy a new one. Any opinions on the best brand on the market now? lol
