Right side of screen will not respond to clicks

Hello,

To clarify, from the left to the right, 2/3 of the screen responds to clicks made on the internet or apps but will not respond to anything I attempt to click on the right 1/3 of the screen. I am still able to click items in the task bar (battery, wifi, bluetooth) but anything else on the right 1/3 of the screen will not acknowledge any action. Any help or advice? (yes i know this thing is old but replacing is not an option at the moment)

I had this issue and took it down to the basics, interestingly for a moment after rebooting I was able to click in the previously un-clickable area in my case the right side of the screen. So I thought well it’s gotta be one of the startup items. I removed what I could from login items and restarted. Same issue however I did notice that grammerly was running in the menu bar. Quit this and issue resolved immediately. Won’t be the same for everybody but worth following the same path to a solution hopefully.

@thebigshow - A misbehaving cloud based App is not something I’ve seen before that blocked access the elements below it. Basically acting as a sheet of glass transparent so you can see through it not touch behind it. I’ve seen a given App fully visible become unresponsive and would be obvious as the fault.

To clarify the issue is within the trackpad not the image on the screen. There is no uniqueness within the desktop, nor within applications that preclude mouse actions unless not offered. Not all elements are clickable and some require dialog back to the server which is offering the URL or if a cloud based app.

The click plate of the trackpad is somewhat focused to the bottom and the middle area as it’s based on a hinged edge at the top and can rock left to right but the closer to the top the more force if is required. Don’t force it as you will break it. It might need adjustment, refer to the guides last page to see it. It’s the screw in the left side triangle space of the frame. Turn it slowly as you don’t want it to fall out. A quarter of a turn at most, try one way then back to center, then the other way.

If the trackpad glass is cracked then it’s possible you need a new MacBook Pro 13" Unibody (Mid 2009-Mid 2012) Trackpad and you’ll need to follow this guide MacBook Pro 13" Unibody Mid 2012 Trackpad Replacement to replace it.

All due respect, Dan, that is not the issue. I have the same issue as Robert and the items I click on the left 2/3 of the screen are fine. If I move the 1/3 of the right screen over to the left, I can then click them, regardless of where my fingers are on the trackpad.

This can be confusing! Because it’s a similar to the question of a glass that has water in it, is it half full or half empty? The prospective one views things can imply the wrong context.

The position of your finger on the trackpad can be anywhere and if needed you can lift your finger and position it at the other far end to allow you to trace further in the other direction. So if your finger is resting on the damaged area if the glass is cracked it won’t track.

If you are pressing on the upper half of the trackpad for a click action it becomes harder more so in the center. If the click action is too sensitive or not registering then the set screw adjustment may need adjusting that’s the center screw at the bottom of the trackpad.

Dan I’m not sure this is a trackpad issue. I’m able to click on the left 2/3 of the screen with every area of the trackpad, but when moving to the right 1/3 of the screen I’m having the exact opposite, no matter where I press on the trackpad I still get no action out of it. I can drag the screen left and then again use any of the trackpad to click items. I ordered a new trackpad so see if that fixes the issue but I’m not holding my breath it’s the fix. Any other ideas would be appreciated!
