Fan Housing Assembly - where can I buy?

I have a GTH18GBDHRWW refrigerator. The freezer fan is making a lot of noise. I tried replacing the motor and fan and one grommet, but it's still making noise. If I hold the fan housing assembly metal, it dampens the vibration and stops the noise. I would like to buy a new Fan Housing Assembly to replace the old one. The model number for the Fan Housing Assembly is WR17X12210. However, the part is discontinued with no replacement. It's not a available anywhere.

What should I do?

Hi @abum13045

Just verifying that you're asking about the freezer fan (aka evaporator fan) housing as the part number you provided is for the condenser fan housing which is under the refrigerator compartment, near the compressor?

@jayeff god... I'm such a moron. I was looking at the refrigerator parts and not the freezer parts. No wonder I couldn't find the parts that I needed. Now I've found every part that I need and have ordered them all. Thanks a million.

Been there, done that all too often myself. ;-)

Cheers.

It's going to take a few days to get the parts. This current freezer fan motor is so loud that I can't sleep. What would be the potential negatives of unplugging the freezer fan motor for about one week?

The refrigerator compartment won't stay at the required temp 37°-39°F and will warm up, so you may get a temperature alarm and also the compressor will be running continually trying to cool it down but not succeeding

The freezer compartment will stay cold enough (as long as the door isn't opened too often) as that's where the evaporator unit is located.

The cold temperature is created in the evap unit and it is the evap fan that drags air over the icy cold evap unit (lower than 0°F), cooling the air down and this air is blown throughout the freezer and refrigerator compartments to cool them down to the required temps.

If you tried a new motor did you change the bushing and fan also. In addition make sure that bushing and fan are not pushed to far on the motor shaft that will cause rubbing. Those items are still available on the link below
