@kglen there is never a good way to fix a noisy fan. I suggest that you replace it with a new one. your model should have two fans, and I would change both. Once one fails the other one is usually close behind. Remember that it's this relatively inexpensive component that essentially keeps your computer running safely. Also, make sure that all air inlet and heatsinks are properly cleaned and free of any major dust and debris. Use the Dell Precision 5550 Service Manual to work on it.
