It seems like I may have shorted out the battery on my iPad 6? The battery life is short, and now when I charge or am using it for a while (unplugged) the home button is significantly hot to the touch.
Is this something that I can fix by replacing the battery myself? Or is it too far gone?

change the home button, I once had an iPad with same problem as yours, a simple home button swap fixed it. If this is your first time opening up an iPad, follow the guide on iFixit.
