I purchased a new display control board for my Whirlpool fridge (part# W11387384). Once I hooked it up the LED lights and icons lit up. After 2 minutes they all shut off as they should except for the Cup Icon and the word "ICE". They stay on all the time. Is this normal or is the board bad or does it mean something else?

Regarding the Cup icon, I wonder if you have to recalibrate the water dispensing function due to having a new UI board?
See the Calibrate Measured Fill section on p.22 of the owner manual
Did you mean fast ice as there's no mention in the manual of just the word ice in the UI display?
Is this the board that you replaced? I realize that it has a different part number but according to this supplier the board that you got superseded the one I linked so perhaps some of the wording in the display may have changed. What was the part number of the original UI board in the refrigerator?
Try turning off the fast ice feature by pressing the Options button and then the temp button under the word ice and check if the word ice is removed.
If still no good, here's the tech sheet for the refrigerator.
Enter the diagnostic test mode and run all the service tests associated with the ice maker just to verify that it is still working OK as far as the control board is concerned.

Thanks jayeff, I will run all the tests you suggest and let you know what happens.
It seems as though the ICE option has been selected.
Does it change if you select another setting e.g. press and hold Temp for 3 seconds?
Haven't done that BUT when I toggle to the water only setting the word ICE shuts off
Trying another feature should turn it off unless it thinks that you have always selected dispensing ICE.
According to p.23 of the manual, Water should be the default setting for that feature.
Also it should return to the home screen after a short time when nothing is pressed
Does the display turn off after 2 minutes if left alone?
If not check that the dispenser paddles are in the home position and if they're OK it may be the board that is the problem.

Did you unplug the refrigerator for 10 minutes and then replug it back in the outlet? Also check your model online and see if any type resetting procedure is needed when installing a new part. Im assumming the icons remaining on isnt something you normally saw?

I have shut the breaker off for 5 minutes. With the old board all icons shut off after 30 seconds.
Turned off power for the 10 minute suggestion, still the same issue.
