The touch sensor on phone wears out

Frequently I have to press the on/off button to make my touch screen work again.

There are no cracks on my screen, it's 5 months old.

When scrolling, swiping (I think txting is ok, as it hasn't happened while texting)

It works for a while and randomly it decides not to work, or you have to press firmly but that gets frustrating so I press the on/off side button so it goes back to working but having to do this frequently.

Please can you help

@eleseocapellan then it is time to replace the display as advised in the original answer.

@wikitoriat67990 try to rule out any 3rd party App that maybe causing this. Go into safe mode

 1. Press and hold the Volume down key.

2. While continuously holding down the Volume key press the Power key briefly to power up the device.

3. The device will power up in Safe mode. You can now stop pressing the Volume down

Now, see if your touchscreen works 100% of the time. If so, it is a bad app that is causing it. You will have to remove those. You can do that in safe mode as well. Check on here how to do this.

If that did not accomplish anything try and see if you can get into the diagnostics for the touchscreen. Dial this sequence *#*#2663#*#* and test your touch

If nothing works, you got 2 options left. One is a factory reset and one is to replace the display assembly since the touchscreen is part of it.

If you are going to do a factory reset make sure that you have backed up all of your files. You will lose the off your phone. That includes pictures/contacts/music/SMS etc. You will also need to have access to the Google account name and password you have used when you setup this phone. If you do not have that, you will not be able to access your phone after a factory reset.

To find out how to do a hard reset use something like this site as well as many others.

To replace the display assembly and since iFixit does not yet have guide for this, use something like this video Replacement screens are readily available. Get the one that has the midframe already mounted to it. It's a lot easier to replace.

While you work on your phone, take lots of pictures. Once you are done with it, take those pictures and create a guide for iFixit. That will help the next person that has a device with the same issues as you do. It's easy and fun to create these guides. https://ifixit.com/Guide/new The iFixit community will appreciate this.
