Why is gearbox sign is on the dashboard?

when I first turn the car on there is nothing coming on the dashboard after 5 minutes of driving I get a message says gearbox malfunction you can continue driving. Why is this?

I also had a same problem too. the problem progressed to dashboard showing R malfunctioning and cannot reverse and when driving it wouldnt pass the second gear.

Have it checked out. I had to have it repaired overhauling all gears and sensors. Total cost was around $3823 . Again please have it check out !!!
