Why does my screen randomly go black or freeze

My screen sometimes goes black or freezes. While it goes black it is still turned on because the key light are on. If I play games then it doesn't happen as often but when I want to work with it goes black. And it happens more rarely when I move my mouse around while working

Thanks ahead

Hello @melik39605,

That's an interesting problem you have there. I'm just taking a shot in the dark here, but this sounds kind of like something I was reading about yesterday. According to what I was reading, sometimes inside a computer, there is a cold solder joint. That means there isn't enough solder or it wasn't done correctly, so it doesn't make electrical contact. However, it was saying when the computer heats up, it can be just enough to melt the solder a little so it can make electrical contact. This could be your problem. The real problem would be fixing it. From what you said, it sounds like the problem resides in the display circuitry, so you would have two target that area. It might be worth shot to pop open the computer and poke around inside and see if you can see any obviously loose solder joints. If you do see something, I'll warn you that soldering can be very challenging, but not impossible. I fixed a computer that had faulty components on the motherboard and now it works just fine. I was a complete beginner and thought many times that I'd ruin the computer. It did take a lot of time and dedication, though. If you don't see anything, or if you don't want to deal with soldering, then I'd probably go ahead and replace the motherboard. Or, maybe I'm completely wrong and the problem is somewhere else. By the way, you didn't provide an exact model number for your computer, so all these guides are for one of the computers in the category. They may not be relevant to your computer, though. It would really help if you gave us your exact model number. If your exact computer isn't on iFixit, it would be greatly appreciated if you created guides for it so others can have easier access to repair info.

Good luck!

First of all thank you for your answer. And you're right I should have posted the exact model of my Laptop. It is a Hp Omen 15-en0263. Your solution would explain the problem with the black screen but why would it freeze then. And it also sometimes happens while the Laptop is heated up.

Thanks again

Hey there!

Thanks for your response! No worries about the model number. Sorry about my late response, I have been off iFixit for a few days and didn't see your comment as a result. My theory (and it's just that, a theory) is that some critical part of the laptop is faulty. You said in your recent update that the problem also occurs when the computer is hot, eliminating my theory about the solder joints being faulty. That does not, however, rule out some motherboard problem. My theory is that some critical area of the computer (such as the display circuitry) is malfunctioning. Sometimes the problem is so bad the whole computer crashes, while other times, it just can't complete an essential task, so it freezes up. I'm not sure how you could diagnose this, so a complete motherboard replacement may be neccesary. It doesn't appear iFixit has any information about your laptop, so you'd have to do some tracking down on the internet, but I'm sure it can be done. I'm running out of space here, so, Good luck!!

Hello !

I got a similar problem. I didn't find any solutions so I paid an IT to check my computer. He told me it was a manufacturing problem and couldn't do anything. He told me that I should send my laptop back and ask for a replacement. He told me it has something to do with my HDMI port, when I plug another monitor, it moves a little bit of my graphic card and it should be the problem.

I'm gonna send it back this week, it's the second time it happens and I bought it one year ago...
