Samsung TV loops on/off with clicking (relay) sound

TV model: ue55d8000yuxxu

I have this TV to repair where it just loops on/off when I turn it on. I can hear the relay turning on/off inside as well. It also displays the "smart tv" logo correctly.

I'm not used to repair tvs so I would appreciate any help! I also have soldering skills.

I've tested the capacitors on the PSU board (all look ok). I've also looked for burned marks or anything that looked off but nothing yet.

I then started to disconnect and connect the different boards to see if I could figure out what board was creating this issue and I've found that there was 2 things that would make the issue go away BUT I still don't know where the issue is coming from. The 2 things that seemed to fix the problem are either:

  • disconnecting the TCON board OR
  • disconnecting the led driver output cables from the PSU

When I do either one of those things the TV turns on and stays on without the relay acting up.

What's confusing me is that those "led driver output" cables are connected to the PSU and the TCON board is connected to the Mainboard... To me it's not making sense. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

@lauroduarte remember that all of it goes through the main board. The main board tells the power board to turn the LED's on. Disconnect the power cord. Then disconnect the main board from the power board. Leave everything else connected the way it's supposed to be. Now plug the power board cord back in. Let us know what happens.

I've tried a couple different stuff and the issue is either the mainboard or the power board. I'm sure of it now.

Also @oldturkey03 I've done what you asked me and when I disconnect the main board and leave the power board without anything connected it is ok and doesn't do the "clicking" noise. Only clicks one time to power on (I assume). As soon as I connect the main board it starts have issues again. Still don't know what that means tho. Does it mean it's an issue in the mainboard because it tells the power board to turn off? Or is it on the power board because it can't take the load of the mainboard?

@lauroduarte without testing it and just going by what you have done thus far, my prime suspect is the main board. Now check with the T-con board connected but the LCD driver boards disconnected. What do you get?

@oldturkey03 still same issue. I also disconnected everything from both the boards and just left the main board and the power board connected to each other. The issue is still there. It only goes away when I disconnect the main board from the power board.

I will order a main board and will let you guys know how it goes.
