Bad board or display?

I was watching my m558-g1 and left the room, when I came back the screen was lit up but and moving around but it was just bars of color. After some troubleshooting the logo will display clearly at boot, but then fades, I also was able to see it display the TV name and input temporally.

I took the boards out for visual (but very amateur) inspection, the only board that looked a little off was the "main" board with all the inputs on it. There is some slightly amber coloring on some of the pins and contacts. Pics below.

Could this be a failing board issue vs display failure? To me it makes sense but I'm biased and want it to be a board, since it doesnt mean I need a new TV.

What works:

Ir sensor &physical tv buttons

Internet connectivity (vizio updated firmware remotely)

Back light (vertical colored bars)

Audio

Hdmi input

Did you ever try replacing one or more of the boards? Iā€™m having this same problem, would love to know if anything worked.

@ryanwiebe79669 . It could be that your board got a little warm but it's hard to see and no definite damage. Take a picture of the component side and post that as well. If you can, add one of the other boards as well. Explain this "but then fades, I also was able to see it display the TV name and input temporally" a bit better. Fading is usually an issue coming from the panel. No, it's not the panel because that would not be good ;-) I want it to be a board too and do not want you having to buy a new TV. For now, looking at the vertical bars I would suspect a failed main board. If you have a multimeter, we could see if your T-con board is having issues. That is the board where the main board connects to via the ribbon cable.

Just reread this. Hdmi input does that mean you can get a picture with the HDMI connection?

Update (04/13/23)

@ryanwiebe79669 measure the voltages on the T-con board and let me know what you get on those. All are DC voltages.

The main board did have a lot of heat coming from that area when i started inspecting it, it was also a bit dusty, so the heat dissipation was limited.

Hdmi input works because when the picture stopped I could still hear my show playing and the colored bars were changing with the show, so I know the TV is getting signal from HDMI.

The logo shows up clear when it boots, then starts to disappear but slowly, you can see it fading in the pictures with the logo and blue bar. I have only seen the input tv name show up once while fiddling with the physical buttons, it also faded away like the logo did, almost looks like burn in as it fades. I have some pictures ill attach now, i can take the boards back off if you want any pics of the backs.

I hope that answers your questions! Thanks so much for your help šŸ˜€

Also i do have a multi meter, im admittedly not great with it, but it looks like theres some videos on youtube. Is it just a power test Im doing? Ill test that out later today.

@ryanwiebe79669 yes. You could test the various needed voltages on the T-con board.

I am unsure of what the values should be but is getting power, I got solid readings that werent jumping around, but there were some zeros too, but for all i know they could be grounds.

I did disconnect the two outgoing connections from the tcon board and just got a white screen, hooking them back up brought the bars back one half of the screen for each of the two cables.

Just saw your update:

Tcon board values:

Vgh:25.04V

Vghd:25.04V

Vgl :-10.63V

Avdd:15.19V

Sda:3.35V

Voltage:11.82V

The tree of points on the main board i posted a picture of are below from left to right:

1.08,0,1.08,0,0,1.08,0,1.08

0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0

I dont see the same test points on the main board or id grab those too.
