gateway power on but screen stay black
Yes. The light on the power button turns on as well as the charging light but my screen is still pitch black.

What is the model number of the laptop?
Try connecting an external monitor to the laptop and check if it has a display when the laptop is on. Don't forget to press the appropriate function key(s) to connect the external monitor.
If the external display is OK (or if you don't have a monitor - TV perhaps if HDMI port in laptop) try shining a flashlight at an angle close the the laptop screen and check for any images. They will be very faint if they're there so trying in a darkened room may help to see them.
If you can see images (Windows desktop?) then there's a backlight problem with the screen.
Could be due to a problem with the motherboard, the video cable or the display.
More info i.e. make and model and results of tests suggested above, is needed from you to help you further
