Overheating -- Fan not spinning
I have an 80gb CECHE model PS3. The fan isn't spinning up, and it's overheating in 15 minutes or so from being turned on. I know the fan itself works because it will spin up for the "fan test."
Is this a sign that my solder is already cracked, or will changing the thermal paste fix the problem? Or is it something else entirely?
Thanks!

im confused...the fan is or is not spinning while it is on(not during fan test) also have you taken this unit apart at any time?

The fan is not spinning when the unit is on. I took it apart to clean out the dust, but didn't do much more than take the case off.
Maybe the thermal paste is so bad that the unit overheats before the heat sensor knows to turn the fan on?

Replaced the thermal paste. System behaving the same as before. Dang.

Performed YLoD repair. When I turned the system on afterwards, the fan came up. The fan cycled to max speed within 10 minutes, and then I got the "the system is hot" message and an auto-shutdown. Now what?
