Reattaching iMac Pro Stand - Latch Inside Problem

I have had my iMac Pro on a VESA adapter and would like to put it back on it's original stand.

The problem is that the internal connector that holds the stand has retreated into the iMac Pro and I'm not sure how to get the stand back on.

Does anyone have any tricks to get the internal "connector" back and locked into a position that I can re-attach the stand?

I've had the closes luck using a paperclip (held by pliers) to try and pull on one of the two protruding studs on the corrector while with the other hand release the latch. But I've yet to get the connector out far enough for it to lock into place so that I can reattach the stand.

I fear I'll never be able to get the stand back on. Any help/tips/tricks would be greatly appreciated.

This is tricky! You need the plastic tool that came with the VESA mount and something to snag the tang that’s slipped inwards to pull it out. There is a latch which prevents the case to go back to far which is now on the wrong side. Refer to the sheet that came with the VESA mount to guide you where to slide the wedge in. If you don’t have the sheet you’ll need to search for the sheet on Apple’s site (it’s a PDF).
