I have a 13" late 2016 macbook pro and the wifi card cuts out constantly. Is there a way to replace this internally? If not, is there an os12 compatible external wifi adapter that can be used?

Sadly, the WiFI and BT services are within a soldered chip on the logic board which you can see in the teardown on Step 15 (the Yellow marked chip)
But before you go down that path how about doing a bit more diagnostics to see more clearly why you are having problems. Often I have people tell me they can’t connect or it stops it’s connection, thinking the issue is their system when in fact it’s the way they have their WiFI setup.
Download from the App Store WiFI Explorer it will allow to see the WiFI bands in use around you and which ones you are using. Often times I encounter people have two or more WiFI bands all of which are named the same but are not setup as a mesh or if they only have one AP your system cached the 5GHz band which doesn’t offer the same distance as the 2.4GHz band as you wanted the faster connection, or the walls and/or ceilings are preventing the signal to pass. But you first need to see what you have before you can solve this issue. Don’t forget to walk around where you want coverage.

Thanks for the info! I did a diagnostic on the machine before posting and it is indeed a problem with the computer. The wifi just shuts down randomly every few minutes. It comes back every time I shut the service off and then on again. I was going to bring it to Apple, but I replaced the battery recently (that was fun, lol) to see if that would do anything and I don't think they'd work on it if I've already done even that little modification.
It's a perfectly good machine otherwise. Is there anything that can be done without replacing the logic board? Or is there an outboard option you'd recommend for wifi?
@joeiadanza - What was the error message you got.
As you had replaced the battery could you have damaged the WiFi Antenna cable or the connector so the connection is not firm?
In any case replacing the battery should hold them back from fixing your system. If you decide to go that route.
As far as options you could get an Apple TB3 (USB-C) to Ethernet adapter and then setup a Ethernet to WiFI bridge unit if where you use your system is to far from the AP or just run an Ethernet cable over to your internet router.
Sadly, I don’t know of any workable plug-in USB-C WiFI units which offer macOS support. Many years ago we did have a few USB-3 units but they have long since disappeared and even if you found one the needed drivers are not available for your macOS release you are using.
