Harder and harder to turn it on

Hi

My (out of apple care) iPhone 11 Pro Max stays on black screen after a few hours not being used (most likely running out of battery).

It used to respond OK to the Volume-Up, Volume-Down, Side-button sequence, but not anymore. Now it stays black.

Last week it "magically" turned on again after 2 weeks untouched (connect to power screen). I took the opportunity to do a full reset (Recovery mode, not DFU as I couldn't get it to switch in DFU mode).

But It did it again: now I can't turn it on, no button sequence work, looks like it does not even charge (does not run hot, neither on several working plugs, nor wireless).

Call to Apple helpline didn't help beside they wants me to pay an excruciating amount of $$$ to get a replacement :-)

Anyone having solved that problem before?

Thanks in advance !

Hi Crazy Pierrot,

I have never heard of this issue, but I am willing to give some tips.

  • You could try restoring your iPhone through iTunes
  • If you dropped your phone for long periods of time, water could have seeped into the screen and/or logic board and damaged the compenents.
  • If your phone is not working with any series of button combinations, I suggest you try and plug the phone in first, then do combonations.

I hope this will find you well

-With regards,

ziamaxim

Thank you for your fast answer !

Step one was done last week, I did the recovery mode restore as it (magically...) turned on by itself. Did a new installation, not from backup, it seems it didn't solve the problem. :-(

Phone was never dropped into water, nor in contact with. I also cleaned the lightning port, but it seemed clean.

I tried to follow your advise

Tried the button sequence with phone plug into a 30W usb-c apple charger (that work with my other iPhone) >> No luck

Tried the same, after 30mn >> no luck

Tried the same after rotating the plug inside the lighting port. >> no luck

Tried the same with phone plugged in my MacBook Air, again, no luck...

Do you think replacing the battery is worth the try ?

Warm regards,

CP

Sorry for the long wait time for my response,

You should try and replace the battery.

First thing to do is replace the battery. Should sort the problem. Saves messing about pressing buttons in the hope it will turn on.
