Any vintage repair services available?

Greetings, I have a saying regarding replacement parts and repair services: “The longer you wait, the harder it gets”. I have a 2004 Sony CD Walkman (D-EJ2000), higher end, which needs repair. My dual (4.5V/1.3V) Sony Car Adapter switch was set to 4.5V when plugged into my Walkman (1.3V unit). Now it will not power up. This repair is straight forward and repairable. I just need to find that person. I had no luck with Sony Support finding a service center but a “Vintage Electronic Repair” query online directed me to this site Forum. Any Ideas?

@mrguy242 lets see if we can find out what went on with it. Most likely a few shorted out components on the power board.....

Great question @mrguy242. Our website doesn't provide repair services but we help crowdsource repair information for people to fix their own devices. You can post your device, problem, and as much as you know about what's wrong with it to our Answers forum and our community will help you figure out what to try. I'd say this is a great first step—it may be a really easy fix! Based on what happened, my guess is that you'll need some basic soldering, a multimeter, and a couple of screw drivers to get this fixed.

That being said, if this is something that is out of your skill set, I can help you find a local repair café in your area. If that's what you prefer, email me at community@ifixit.com with the city or county you live in and I'll help connect you.

@mrguy242 you are our eyes, ears and hands on this repair. Looks like the DC in adapter sits on a sub board. TH 401 is a thermistor with a 0K ohm value. That is a part that might be used as the fuse. So that could be the issue. That might be where we need to look at first. Here is the service manual Sony D EJ2000 and it'll show you how to disassemble your Walkman. After that, post plenty of good pictures of your circuit boards with your question. That way we can see what you see.
