After doing my first battery swap about 7 years ago, my 6th gen iPod classic only charges while connected to my PC. I've tried a number of USB wall adapters and none of them have worked since. Did another battery swap recently and same thing.
Have not yet tried in my truck, so don't know if that works or not.

I think your battery is degraded as iv seen iPods do this before and usually charging it through a Mac or pc works
also I have found that 9/10 a firewire charger will work as they output more than the usb ones
apart from that it might be time for a new battery but I would try a firewire charger first
if you can find a firewire charger for a good enough price I recommend looking locally for people selling old iPods that come with the charger

The problem is that it worked fine with the original battery, but I've changed batteries twice now (7 years ago and again this month) and neither one worked charging off wall power. Charges and syncs fine off PC USB ports.

@cardsfanbj changes have been made on the wiring between the iPod dock connector and the chargers itself. Apple changed which of the connector’s 30 pins carries power, the connector’s audio features have been largely untouched. Try to find an old AC wall adapter and see if that works.

That answer seems confusing to me, why would changes made to the cable affect what power source I can plug into when it doesn't matter what cable I use to charge it? I've got the original 30-pin cable that came packaged with my iPod and I've got an aftermarket cable I bought 7 years after that and both work fine on PC's USB but not on wall adapter USB.
(I don't remember whether or not the Classic came with a wall adapter in the box, but if it did I have no clue where it would be or if I still had it so I have no way to test that theory)

Apples older power adapters can output more power and have different components inside which could allow it to be powered from the wall:-)
Actually the change that was made was in the charging port connection. That is the series where all of a sudden certain accessories would not longer charge the iPod etc. Hence the idea of using an older charger and and old charging cable. Any old charger from a Goodwill store or similar would be worth a try.
Remember that the difference between charging from a USB port and charging from a charger is the connections on the dock connector/cable.
That makes sense:-)
I though you meant a FireWire charger as I know that they can do amazing things for old iPods:-)
@hellomacos check the wiring for the dock connector. You'll see that the firewire uses different contacts :-) and yes they have the oomph

Sounds like the charge ribbon has sustained damage. Check the solder joints to see if they’ve been pulled during battery replacement.

The 6th generation is very picky with what adapters work. From my experience and others only the Apple "A1205" and "A1102". (They are both 5V and 1A.) Any generic cable should work not adapter. This is due to 6th gen needing Signals on the Data Lines that the charger sends. Short out said lines and it will not charge with PC nor adapter.
