Pokémon Blue Game Problem

I just got an authentic copy of Pokemon Blue from eBay that I'm wanting to fix. The issue is that there is a huge black square where the characters are set to appear. How can I fix this?

Also, this is the first game boy cartridge that I'm actually going to attempt fixing, so I would like some pointers too if that's alright with you guys.

I know that the game will definitely need a new battery, but now the game won’t get to the title menu whenever I put a cartridge in.

Did you post a pic after soldering. Looks like you tried but can’t see anything.

I fixed the bridging in the pins, but the game won’t still boot up. At least it can be read

Hi

I believe this issue is caused by corrosion on the PCB or loose pins

You may need to repair some traces by soldering them back with jumper wires but it will probably just need some isopropyl alcohol and cotton buds to clean it up

As for loose pins you will need some fresh solder and flux for them, it’s not to hard you just need to solder them down carefully

Edit: if you clean the spots I have high in red with isopropyl alcohol it may resolves your issue

It usually is different across different game cards

Best thing to to is take it apart and see what’s happening :-)

Look at the chip on the bottom left of your pic. Left side has corrosion on quite a few pins. Clean it off with some ipa and re solder every connection on the board.

It's a solder issue. Reflow every leg on the chips and it will work again.
