MacBook runs blazing hot and high battery discharge
Something that has been bothering me for a while. My 2017 Macbook Pro 13” only gets 2-3 hours of battery life with me barely doing anything. This is compounded with the thing running stupid hot and the fans coming on almost all the time.
Battery was replaced with the top case about a year ago, but issue was happening before that too. Battery is currently at 95% capacity with 257 cycles.
Right now, with all apps closed except for Chrome, and only this tab open, CoconutBattery is hovering around 10-12w discharge rate. During normal usage, it’s generally at about 16-20w discharge rate.
I have done an SMC reset. I switched to Chrome from Safari just to see if there would be an improvement, but nope.
Nothing is using huge CPU in activity monitor, except maybe kernel_task that is routinely at 10-20% of CPU.
Is dit een goede vraag?

Thank you for the suggestions. I ran the diagnostic tool which came back without issues. Screenshots of TG Pro attached. Note, I have been using it on battery power for a couple hours, only doing light browsing. I am outside in 33C heat, but it’s generally the same regardless of temp. Chrome is the only app open in the dashboard outside of CoconutBattery and ActivityMonitor.
I really think the issue is software and not hardware as it was the same before I had the top case replaced.

I don't see any issues with your system from a heat perspective. The values are all within the expected levels. Let's run you system plugged in I'm curious if the issue is different plugged in.
Either Hardware or Software issues would reflect thermally in TG Pro. So if this was software we would have seen the fingerprints which we just don't.
Make sure you are not blocking the ventilation slots on the sides and back.
