ZG5 wont charge or turn on

hi guys,

my mrs has a zg5 notebook and on sunday she noticed that the notebook wouldnt charge unless the charger was fiddled with and in a wierd position, the following day it wont turn on and it wont charge. not do any lights come on when the charger is plugged in, the orange light flashes 3 times when i hit the power button but thats it. Im not sure if its the charger cable, the port where the charger slots into on the netbook or something else. im considering a tear down and the guide looks straight forward, im just looking for some possible reasons to help me fix this from you guys please :)

Thanks

Steve

There is the possibility that the charger has a broken connection on the DC plug. Gt a multimeter and plug in the charger. Attach the multimeter to the DC plug and see if you have any output. Move the plug around and see if it either gets power or loses power. It is also possible that the DC adapter on your mother board has either come loose on the board or has broken solder connection. The only way to determine that is by opening it up and using a multimeter to see if you are getting power with the AC Adapter plugged in. Hope this will get you started and let us know what you find out. Good Luck.

put it on DC voltage + tip - barrel Most multimeter have Black probe for - and Red probe for + Set it at a range of about 50 V, not sure what meter you have, but should work out. ;-) http://www.laptopparts101.com/ac-dc-powe... Good Luck

thanks oldturkey! i tried this and i couldnt get the meter to read anything but 0.00, however i can hear an electrical click when i connect the colverleaf cable to the chager block so i suspect it is the charging brick that has died. i think its worth a chance getting a new one as they are only £5 off ebay? thoughts? thanks again

Yes, absolutely. Cheaper than a new computer :-) Good Luck.

ok does anyone happen to know the power-connector on the motherboard itself's specs? the center-post for the connection in the laptop apparently broke off .. was considering just saying the !^@% with it and soldering the power connector wires together making in effect a permanent powercord, but if its plausible to buy and replace that connector... *lol* 3razar3@gmail.com
