Microphone replacement parts for Moto X 2nd (Moto X2)

While replacing USB connector I’ve damaged main microphone - with hot air or soldering paste got into the holes. Recorded sound is super quiet. I’ve tried to clean them up with IPA and compressed air but that didn’t help.

There’re 4 mics on this phone: 2 front facing near the bottom grill, one back facing in the top and second back facing in the bottom between 2 front facing ones. Sound is recorded properly during video recording and loud speaker phone calls but not in recorder app or normal phone calls. I assume bottom front facing ones are broken (please correct me if I’m wrong).

Those would be this golden ones in the center of that picture:

Here’s the board view and schematics:

This phone is quiet old but still very capable so I wanted to fix it and give someone who can still benefit from it. Unfortunately I’m unable to find dedicated microphones for this device anywhere. There’re bunch of “generic” Motorola microphones and similar for different devices like Moto G on Aliexpress but I don’t know which one would work.

How can I find a suitable replacement microphones?

Hi @lukz ,

Not sure but try searching for 50014025021 to find suppliers that suit you. Some still have it in stock. (supplier example only to show image of part).

This is the part number for a Moto X 2nd Gen XT1092 bottom microphone, but I’m thinking as far as 2nd Gen models go i.e. XT1093, XT1095, XT1096 etc, the bottom microphones would all be the same.

Looks like exactly what I needed. Thank you! How did you found this part number? The one from schematics is different.

@lukz

The part number (p/n) is on the page in the link I posted above under the description of the part.

Don't be confused.

The part number is not the component type identification information.

It is a number assigned by the manufacturer (Motorola?) to identify the part when ordering.

The parts list associated with schematics (if there is one) usually show what the actual component identification information is along with the part number.

Do you know if there's any way to identify which mic is broken? I've noticed that recording in recorder app (using main mic) is not working in normal mode, but works in stereo recording mode. On my PC I can see that recording is on the right channel and left contains only noise.

@lukz

The main phone mic presumably behind the voice inlet hole on the bottom edge would be mono.

So in stereo mode another mic would be used as well to get the two channels.

maybe that's why it doesn't work with recorder app in normal (mono?) but does in stereo and the left channel is tied to that microphone.

Only a guess as I can't find the schematics etc.
