Pioneer BDP-140 "UNK DISC" error

My Pioneer BDP-140 has worked flawlessly for around 8 years. However, lately when I insert CD-audio and DVD-video discs it just displays the message "UNK DISC" and refuses to play said discs (the discs do not even spin). Blu-ray discs playback is normal.

Some things I already tried with no success:

Loaded default settings

Firmware reflash (v1.20)

Firmware downgrades (v1.17, v1.10 and v1.08)

Replaced entire loader assembly

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

@hp78 sounds like your laser cannot read your disks. clean the laser assembly and see if that helps or worst case scenario you may have to replace it.

Actually I already replaced the complete loader assembly, which includes the 2 lasers. However the player displays the exact same behaviour.

@hp78 that is a tough one since you already replaced the loader I would assume that the issue must then come from somewhere on the main board. I suggest you start with something like this Flowchart

Block Image

and go through those. Also, try the service mode and see if that shows you anything unusual. Pioneer BDP 140 Rrv4263

Thank you for the answer.

I am thinking there may be a calibration issue with the new loader. Looking at the service manual, on the FA Mode section, it is requested that you insert a calibration disc "GGV1368", which I do not have of course.

Do you know how to find this disc? Or at least an image of it?
