How to replace my screen sensor for it being open/closed

I am going to say this isn’t a popular issue but when I close my lid the screen stays on. I am very techy and have already checked to make sure it sleeps or shutdowns when the screen is closed. Being as the X1 Carbon Gen 3 is kind of like a ultra book it is extremely complex inside and I need to repair it without breaking it. If you have a resolution please and thank you.

Hi @davclay ,

Try waving a magnet over the hall effect sensor to see if you can make the display turn on and off.

If it works you may have to check that the magnet in the lid is still in position.

If it doesn’t work then check that the hall sensor cable (part # 01AY250) is securely connected. If it is then the sensor may be faulty.

Here’s the hardware maintenance manual for the laptop. Go to p.66-67 to view the location of the sensor and cable connection.

There is a little magnet that falls out of it’s holder, you should be able to take off the bottom and find it and hot glue it back were it is supposed to go. be sure the wires are all back in their channels before you seal it up again.

you can test the sensor by running a magnet along the top of the screen. about 1” to the left of camera.
