Is it possible to repair a short in a LCD pannel

Every time I would turn on my tv, the screen started flickering and would develop horizontal lines on the screen within 2 seconds. By that time, the screen would dim to black, it would stay like that until power cycled. The LED backlight works fine, and all signals and voltages from the power supply seem strong and fine.

I immediately replaced the t-con and mainboard, but the symptoms stayed the same. I later found the t-con board clicking (relays) multiple times after power-up, corresponding to the screen flickering. Disconnecting the LCD ribbon cables stops the clicking from the t-con board. I think this means that there is a short in the LCD panel itself.

Is it possible to fix shorts in the LCD panel? Replacements seem to be worth more than the tv was initially.

Hi @doppler911,

The short answer is no, they cannot be repaired.

Either the panel is replaced, if you can find one and the price is right, or you advertise the TV as faulty screen - good for parts to try and recoup some of the cost towards a new TV. Working TV boards are always in demand.

Fixing loose vertical tab connections to the screen is sometimes achievable if it is only a vertical line or two that is the problem but even then not if it is internal to the screen itself.
