Water Damage - New Battery, Screen and Charge Port

Block Image

Block Image

My iPhone 6 went for a swim and I put it in rice for three days. Everyone says to do this but its the worst idea. Unfortunately, I learned the hard way. My phone never turned back on. I purchased a new display screen, new battery and a new charge port. After connecting everything, a section of the motherboard heats up (NFC, power IC 1, audio IC), and the display never comes on.

I did notice that the phone was getting really hot before the water damage incident, but it still worked so I didn’t think anything of it.

I need to recover the data. Is there anything else I can do to get it to turn on?

From the pics and what you have explained the phone will need board level repairs for it to boot. If you need the data off it I would recommend sending it to a reputable repairer.

However  if you have the right equipment and microsoldering skills you will need to determine what lines are shorted to ground than find the component on that line and replace it. Going by the pics you will at least have to:

·         Remove the Wi-Fi IC.

·         Remove the audio speaker amp.

·         Replace Tristar.

Would cleaning it with 90% alcohol help/harm anything?

@drowning6 You could try brushing it with alcohol. Just make sure the alcohol smell is gone before connecting power.
