How to fix flickering/shaking screen?

I looked at different threads specifying different screen issues, but I didn’t find the exact one I encounter on mine. The screen is flickering/shaking - not locally, but the whole screen. Sometimes it loses connection entirely, to the point of being frozen. When I connect the laptop to the external display it works perfectly fine.

Is it fixable?

Not good ;-{ Your T-CON got cooked!

Basically, you need a new display assembly. do you have AppleCare+? Otherwise you’ll need to be creative! Before we worry about our display how’s your keyboard? Any issues with it, I assume the answer is yes! Then we have a way to get everything fixed under the Apple Extended warranty problem for the keyboard.

Keyboard Service Program for MacBook, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro

OK, how? I’m sure if you place your system somewhere where its cool (no cooler than 4.4℃/40℉) I bet you the problem disappears! If thats the case then while the system is cool visit an Apple Store to get your keyboard fixed. Let them discover the screen issue during Q/C I think the you get your system back, it will be fixed as well.

Interesting, thanks for you answer! The laptop actually falls under the keyboard service program, I've had it connected to an external display and never noticed any keyboard issues. I also never encountered any difference in the behavior depending on the temperature, is there a way to 100% confirm it's T-CON issue?

@mhaligowski - If you have a good image on the external monitor the internal display is the root issue. Your systems graphics and driver logic within the main logic board are all good! As the external display would not work.

The T-CON board is part of the display. Most systems place it with the LCD panel. Apple of course loves to move things around! Here that moved it to the uppercase. Do you tend to run heavy processing jobs? This model tends to run hot as its only has one fan vs the TB model which has two. It's important to keep the fan and cooling fins clear of dust and make sure the vents are not blocked. I also strongly recommend installing a good thermal monitoring app like TG Pro pushing the fan up when you are running hot.

So you'll need to help it along ;-} Otherwise you'll need to fork over for a new display 16/17 13" MacBook Pro Fn display assembly somewhere around $400 to $720 depending if you go recycled or new.
