Once booted up, down on the right side of the TaskBar, what does it say about the battery ? Any charge?

door

It says idle or not charging. depending on where you look.. I also put it into another laptop and have the same response.

@Jon Mroz

Does it show any percentage of charge?

door

@aactech It shows 38%

door

@Jon Mroz

So it shows 38% but does it indicate any charging or just a static 38% ?

OK this has been solved..

When the replacement battery came in also not able to communicate i suspected a change in the firmware..

This laptop was on the latest A24 so i downgraded it to A14. Now it works.

It seems that firmware Latitude E5550 A22 is when they changed the charging circuit routine and broke the ability to charge aftermarket batteries.. I suspect this is happening to any dell laptop.

If same result in another laptop then the battery is probably defective.

Is it a DELL battery or a third party one?

It is a iFixit replacement battery.

This did not work.

Dell laptop and I recently had a new ac adapter installed.

still says "255% available and plugged in"

I too have same message after installing new battery. Any resolution would be helpful

Same issue here. Inspiron 3521. Original OEM battery was giving me this error. I just bought a new Dell branded battery on eBay (looks identical to me in every way, but for $25 could be a fake), and getting the same error. I am trying some things such as Windows update, Dell updates, chipset update. Bios says version A12. Ironically, Bios version A16 wouldn’t install without a recognized battery installed, ha. So far, I got it to at least show 255% battery remaining. Tried the reboot with battery removed. Still getting the message battery cannot be identified upon boot, and it immediately turns off when unplugged.
